Sam Morrone joined the WVU athletics staff in July 2016 as Assistant Athletics Director for Business Operations and is responsible for assisting with the overall management of the athletics business office, while also providing personnel oversight of the athletics business office and managing the athletics budget on a day-to-day basis. In addition, Morrone assists in the development of the annual revenue and expense budget for athletics.
Morrone came to West Virginia from Northern Illinois, where he was the Assistant Athletic Director of Business Operations since 2015. While at Northern Illinois, he oversaw all day-to-day financial affairs of a 16-team athletic department, cheerleading, all administrative departments and the Convocation Center operations.
Prior to Northern Illinois, Morrone was the Assistant Athletic Director of Internal Affairs at Texas A&M-Commerce from 2012-14, where he was a member of the senior administrative staff. Morrone was responsible for all day to day internal affairs of a 14-team athletic department including, business operations, travel, facilities, human resources, technology and co-head of game day operations.
Also at Texas A&M-Commerce, Morrone served as Director of Business Operations from 2011-12, and managed daily deposits, accounts payable, petty cash and time sheets for hourly employees.
Morrone previously served as an Associate Accountant at Tetrick & Bartlett, PLLC from 2009-11 and a Financial Processor in the mortgage department at United Bank in 2009.
Morrone earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting from West Virginia in 2008, where he was a four-year member (2005-08) of the Mountaineer football team that won a Sugar Bowl, Gator Bowl, Fiesta Bowl and Meineke Car Care Bowl.
A native of Fairmont, Morrone resides in Morgantown with his wife Jessica and their sons, S.J. and Franko.
