Nick Carroll was named the Assistant Director of Compliance for West Virginia University Athletics in October 2022. He first joined the WVU Athletics Department in August of 2021, as a graduate assistant for Student-Athlete Academic Services.
In his current role, Carroll will monitor all official and unofficial visits for prospective student-athletes while assisting in the day-to-day operations of the Compliance Office.
As a graduate assistant in WVU’s Office of Student-Athlete Academic Services (SAAS), Carroll worked in a rotational role as an academic advisor, learning specialist and tutor coordinator. As an academic advisor, he provided academic support and advising to Mountaineer student-athletes and conducted weekly meetings with coaches and student-athletes to track grades and academic progress. Carroll also assisted student-athletes with registering for classes and coordinated with on-campus advisors while monitoring each athlete’s eligibility requirements.
As a learning specialist, Carroll provided individual learning support to student-athletes, helping five of them earn a high term GPA than their cumulative GPA and four of them earn a 3.0 GPA or higher.
As a tutor coordinator, Carroll created a student-athlete tutor services contract for WVU’s Olympic Sports and scheduled course-based tutoring appointments for all Mountaineer student-athletes. Additionally, he hired and trained over 50 tutors, educating them on NCAA compliance and tutoring techniques, and produced daily reports for academic advisors.
Carroll also interned with WVU Athletics Compliance prior to his current role. He also volunteered with 2022 Big 12 Swimming and Diving Championships, the WVU Baseball Leadoff Dinner and facilities and operations for WVU men’s soccer and women’s soccer during his time in Morgantown
Carroll graduated from King University in the spring of 2020 with a Bachelor of Arts in management, with a minor in coaching. He was a member of the baseball team from 2016-20, and was named to the Conference Carolinas Presidential Honor Roll, the 2018-19 Conference Carolinas Academic All-Conference Team and the King University President’s List during each of his four seasons. He captained the team as a senior and was named to the 2020 Conference Carolinas All-Support Team.
Carroll was a member of the Student Government Association, the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and the Tornado Leadership Academy while at KU.
He is currently pursuing his master’s degree in sport management at WVU.
A native of Christiansburg, Virginia, Carroll is a member of WVU’s Every Mountaineer Committee and resides in Morgantown.
