Kristoffer Sorensen joined the Mountaineer rowing program as an assistant coach in September 2026.

Sorensen came to West Virginia after serving as an assistant women’s rowing coach at Jacksonville University from 2024-26. Kristoffer held the role of performance coordinator, where he designed and implemented the annual training plan which resulted in program-record 2k and 6k ergometer performances. He also applied individualized video analysis and athlete feedback systems to improve technical efficiency and boat speed.

In 2026, Sorensen contributed to the 2026 MAAC Championship team and the best NCAA Championship finish in program history.

Prior to Jacksonville, Sorensen served as the head coach for men’s rowing at Loyola Marymount from 2023-24. There he designed a science-based training program that produced a 95% personal-record rate during testing cycles.

While leading all aspects of the division I men’s rowing program, he coached multiple novice athletes to sub-6:20 2k performances and guided an athlete to a university-record 2k erg score of 5:54.16. Sorensen was also able to increase the varsity roster size by 300% from Spring 2023 to Spring 2024 through strategic recruiting and athlete initiatives.

Sorensen also has experience as an assistant coach of men’s and women’s rowing at George Mason in 2023.

He also served as head coach of women’s scholastic varsity rowing with the Woodbridge High School Crew in northern Virginia, and the program director and head coach of the Prince William Rowing Club and Crew, where he fostered a high-performance team culture that doubled the roster size in two years.
