Cathy Martin began working at West Virginia University in 1978 and joined the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics in 1980. Martin started in the football recruiting area before moving to the athletic director’s office.

From Dick Martin to Shane Lyons, Martin has worked with five athletic directors at WVU and executes the daily meetings, business affairs and operations of the office. From scheduling to planning, Martin supports the mission of the athletic director to ensure that he is on point and optimally prepared to execute the department’s mission.

She also manages and plans several athletic events throughout the year. The WVU Sports Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony is arranged under her management as well as all suite, pregame and postgame hospitality for the director’s office. Not only is she charged with maintaining the director’s schedule, but also his travel and is the gateway to his office.

In 2018, Martin was awarded a special 150-year coin in honor of her outstanding contributions to the University. She lives in Morgantown and has two brothers, two sisters and 11 nieces and nephews.
