Mountaineers Win Big in Season Opener

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University rifle team rolled over Mount Aloysius, 4737-4587, on Saturday in the team's first match of the season at the Bill McKenzie Mobile Rifle Range inside the WVU Shell Building.

Muller scored a perfect 600 in air rifle to become the 12th Mountaineer in program history to accomplish the feat. She added a mark of 586 in smallbore to accrue an aggregate total of 1186. Griffin Lake and Jennifer Kocher finished in a tie for first place with matching scores to Muller. Lake had marks of 590 in smallbore and 596 in air rifle, while Kocher hit a 588 in smallbore and a 598 in air rifle. Â
The Mountaineers won in both smallbore and air rifle, with scores of 2351 and 2386, respectively. The Mounties finished with scores of 2270 in smallbore and 2317 in air rifle.
For smallbore and air rifle, Lake, Muller, Kocher, Jacob Wisman and Jack Ogoreuc served as counters. The Mountaineers claimed nine of the top 10 aggregate scores on the afternoon. Â

Ogoreuc finished in fourth place with a 1179 after scoring a 587 in smallbore and a 592 in air rifle. Wisman finished just behind with a 1178 and added marks of 586 in smallbore and 592 in air rifle.

Lauri Syrja and Karlie Lynn each finished with 1177 to finish tied for seventh while Ashlyn Blake claimed eighth place with a 1172. Hana Strakusek was the final Mountaineer in action, finishing in 10th place following a 1165 total score.
The Mountaineers are a perfect 5-0 all-time against Mount Aloysius in a series that dates back to 2023.Â
West Virginia is back in action on Saturday, Oct. 3, when they take on Army inside the Tronsrue Marksmanship Center in West Point, New York. It is the Mountaineers first Great America Rifle Conference of the season and is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. ET.
