Rifle to Open Season Against Mount Aloysius

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University rifle team opens its 2026-27 season this weekend at home against Mount Aloysius.

WVU kicks off its NCAA National Championship title defense against Mounties inside the WVU Shell Building on the Bill McKenzie Mobile Rifle Range at 9 a.m. ET on Saturday.

West Virginia is 4-0 all-time against Mount Aloysius in a series that began in 2024. The two programs met three times last season, where WVU won all three matches, including a 4742-4536 win during the WVU Fall Classic.

The Mountaineers have won twenty-three consecutive matches at home dating back to the 2022-23 season. WVU's last home loss came against TCU by just four points on Nov. 6, 2022.

The Mountaineers finished the 2025-26 campaign with an 18-1 record, including a 5-0 mark inside the Great American Rifle Conference (GARC). WVU claimed its 18th GARC Tournament Championship while also producing its 17th GARC regular season title.

West Virginia earned their 18th consecutive bid to the NCAA Rifle Championships last season. WVU concluded its season at the event, shooting a 4748 at the championship to claim the program's 21st NCAA National Championship.
