MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University volleyball team (1-0, 0-0 Big 12) won its season opener on Friday, beating Towson 3-1 in the opening match of the Quest for the Crown Tournament in Norfolk, Virginia.
The Mountaineers downed Towson with set scores of 16-25, 25-11, 25-15 and 25-15.
The defense led the way for the Mountaineers with 18 total blocks which was the most in a game for the Mountaineers since 2018. Senior middle blocker
Laila Ibrahim led the charge with a career-high 13 blocks. Both redshirt senior outside hitter

Alexis Finnvold had career highs with four and five blocks respectively. Tanton and Finnvold finished with double-digit digs, resulting in Tanton's 13th career double-double (11 kills, 10 digs) and Finnvold's sixth career double-double (28 assists, 14 digs).
The Mountaineers held the Tigers to a hitting percentage of just .074, the lowest for a WVU opponent since 2023.

Maddy McGath added to the stat sheet with eight kills, seven digs and six blocks.
Next, West Virginia will face off against Old Dominion Friday night at 7 p.m. ET. Friday night's match will be held inside ODU Volleyball Center in Norfolk, Va. The match will be streamed live on ESPN+, while live stats are available at WVUsports.com.
