MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University gymnastics coach Jason Butts has announced the signing of Haley Mendoza for the 2025-26 school year.
A native of West Chester, Ohio, Mendoza will graduate from the Ohio Connections Academy this spring. She trained and competed at Queen City Gymnastics under coaches Zach Busam and Stacy Moore and will join the Mountaineer gymnastics team as a freshman in the fall, competing for WVU in the 2026 season.
"As soon as Haley stepped foot on campus, we knew she would be an incredible addition to our Mountaineer family," assistant coach Kaylyn Millick said. "She's extremely easygoing, sweet and beamed with excitement about the opportunity. She has three years of elite gymnastics experience, as well as a successful JO resume, especially on uneven bars. I have no doubt that her positive work-ethic and beautiful style will make an immediate impact on our lineups."
Mendoza is a four-year Level 10 gymnast and three-time qualifier for the Women's Development Program National Championships. She also was a three-time Elite Compulsory qualifier.
Most recently, Mendoza competed on the uneven bars in the All-Stars division of the 2025 DP National Championships. She earned a spot at nationals after finishing in a tie for second place on bars at the 2025 Regional 5 Regional Championships.
Previously at nationals, she finished in the top 15 on bars in 2024, after placing in the top 10 on bars and balance beam at the 2024 Regional Championships. Mendoza recorded her first trip to nationals in 2022, clinching a top-15 finish on bars in her nationals debut. She earned a spot at the national championships after placing in the top 10 on all four events and the all-around at the 2022 Region 5 Regional Championships.
The daughter of Ernest and Sherry, Mendoza plans to major in communications at WVU.
