MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The No. 2-ranked West Virginia University rifle team shot a 4742 in the qualifying match for the 2024-25 NCAA Rifle Championships on Saturday afternoon, at the Bill McKenzie Mobile Rifle Range inside the WVU Shell Building in Morgantown.
West Virginia (13-0, 5-0 GARC) finished the match with scores of 2355 in smallbore and 2387 in air rifle to compile its team score. The Mountaineers' top three scores this season include a 4756 at Ohio State, 4754 vs Navy and 4752 at Army to give WVU a season average of 4754. Together WVU's qualifying score evens out to 9496.
The Mountaineers shot alongside VMI in Saturday's qualifier.
This weekend's qualifying scores will be tabulated and determine the top eight teams who will make up the field at this year's NCAA Championships, which will be announced on Monday, Feb. 24, on NCAA.com at 6 p.m. ET.
The NCAA Championships are being hosted by Kentucky and are scheduled for March 14-15. The season-ending event will take place inside Memorial Coliseum in Lexington, Kentucky.

Jennifer Kocher each served as counters for the NCAA Qualifier.
Lake 1187 (595 SB - 592 AR) finished first on the overall leaderboard and tied his career high in smallbore. Blake finished in second place with an 1186 (588 SB - 589 AR) while Kocher 1183 (587 SB - 596 AR) finished in third place.
Perrin 1180 (585 SB - 595 AR) claimed fourth place as Syrja 1178 (580 SB - 598 AR) took fifth.
Camryn Camp and
Maximus Duncan also competed at the event, finishing in sixth and seventh place respectively. Camp scored 1172 (576 SB - 596 AR) while Duncan hit 1166 (584 SB - 582 AR).
Next up, West Virginia stays at home for the 2024-25 Great American Rifle Conference (GARC) Championships, at the Bill McKenzie Mobile Rifle Range inside the WVU Shell Building. The event will take place on March 1-2 with both sessions beginning at 9 a.m. ET both days.
