West Virginia Downs Cincinnati on Senior Day

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The No. 18-ranked West Virginia University women's basketball team defeated Cincinnati, 69-50, on senior day inside the WVU Coliseum in Morgantown.

Senior guard JJ Quinerly scored 29 points to move into fifth all-time on the program's scoring list passing Teana Muldrow (2014-18). It marks the 10th time this season the Norfolk, Virginia native has finished with 20+ points in a contest.

With the win, the Mountaineers move to a perfect 14-0 on the season and run its home win streak to 15 straight contests.

The Mountaineers overcame a sluggish first half to win by at least 19 points for the 17th time this season and is the 20th win by double digits.

Quinerly finished as the leading scorer and was the only Mountaineer in double figures. Senior guard Kyah Watson filled the stat sheet with nine rebounds, six steals and four assists.

Cincinnati scored on its first two attempts from the floor to a 5-2 lead. The Mountaineer defense took over holding the Bearcats scoreless for over six minutes to the 2:06 mark in the quarter. WVU led 12-5 at the mark after UC went 0-of-7 from the floor and coughed up five turnovers during the run. The Mountaineers took a 14-7 lead after 10 minutes and finished the frame on a 12-2 scoring run.

West Virginia scored first in the second, pushing its lead to nine points before three straight Cincinnati baskets cut the WVU lead to 16-13 at the five-minute mark. The Bearcats took a one-point lead at 21-20 with a minute to play before freshman guard Destiny Agubata knocked down a corner three. WVU scored seven points during the final 60 seconds of the half to lead by six.

The Mountaineers scored the opening seven points of the third quarter, pushing their scoring spurt to 14-0 over the final minute of the second and first minute of the third. The effort increased the WVU lead to 13 points, its largest lead to that point of the game.

Quinerly (10) and Shaw (9) did the bulk of the scoring in the third, helping WVU to a 22-11 scoring edge. The offensive surge pushed the Mountaineers to a 17-point lead entering the final frame.

WVU poured in 20 points in the fourth quarter to collect the 19-point win.

West Virginia is now 11-5 all-time against UC, including a 5-1 mark when playing inside the WVU Coliseum. The Mountaineers have won eight straight against the Bearcats.
