
Respass Named Student-Athlete of the Week

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – After scoring two goals against JMU on Sept. 5, junior forward Ajanae Respass of the West Virginia University women's soccer team has been named the WVU Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by University Apartments.
The brace marked the second for WVU this season, after Taylor White notched a pair of scores against Radford on Aug. 18. While it was Respass' first brace as a Mountaineer, it was the second of her college career after she posted her first two-goal performance as a freshman at Oregon in 2022. West Virginia has now featured a two-goal scorer 130 times in program history.
A native of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, Respass now leads the Mountaineer offense in goals (4), assists (3) and points (11). She ranks third in the Big 12 Conference in total assists and in game-winning goals (2).
WVU now looks ahead to its Big 12 Conference opener on Thursday, Sept.12, as it travels to Cincinnati, Ohio, to open league play against the Bearcats. Kickoff at Gettler Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.
This Week in Men's Soccer: No. 1 West Virginia remains in California to conclude it's two-game road trip ... the Mountaineers will battle Loyola Marymount on Tuesday, Sept. 10 ... kickoff is set for 8 p.m. ET from Sullivan Field in Los Angeles.
Last Week in Men's Soccer: The Mountaineers remained undefeated with a 3-2 victory over California Baptist ... graduate students Simon Carlson and Sergio Ors Navarro and junior Marcus Caldeira each scored a goal in the win ... the Mountaineers had to rally with Ors Navarro scoring the tying goal in the 75th minute and Caldeira's game-winning goal coming in the 87th minute ... freshman Isaac Scheer registered his first career point with an assist ... it is the second year in a row that Mountaineers have defeated the Lancers.

West Virginia will compete in a doubleheader on Friday, facing off against Virginia at 10 a.m. ET, followed by a match with ETSU at 4 p.m. ... the Mountaineers conclude the tournament against Liberty at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
Last Week in Volleyball: West Virginia went 1-2 over the weekend at the NDSU/UND Tournament on Sept. 6-8 in Fargo and Grand Forks, North Dakota ... the Mountaineers secured their lone win of the weekend came against North Dakota State, 3-2 on Friday evening inside the Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse in Fargo, N.D. ... West Virginia fell to Northern Iowa, 3-1 on Saturday night in Grand Forks, and concluded the weekend with a loss against North Dakota on Sunday, 3-2.
Notes: Redshirt junior outside hitter Cassidy Tanton collected a career best of 22 kills paired with a .357 hitting percentage on Sunday versus North Dakota ... Tanton notched her second career double-double as she added 11 digs versus the Fighting Hawks ... sophomore Maddy McGath tied her career best of 15 kills on Sunday versus UND.
This Week in Golf: The Mountaineers will finish up competition at the Gopher Invitational on Monday … WVU will be off until the hosting the Nemacolin Collegiate Invitational on Sept. 30-Oct. 1.
Last Week in Golf: Junior Kaleb Wilson shot rounds of 72-68 (-2) and is tied for fifth place after 36 holes to lead the West Virginia University golf team at the season-opening Gopher Invitational in Independence, Minnesota … in individual competition at the Minnesota Golf Classic at Pioneer Creek Golf Club in Maple Plain, Minnesota, freshman Nick Turowski recorded a seventh-place finish in his first collegiate tournament with rounds of 71-71-75=217 (+1) … in addition to Wilson at the team competition at the Gopher Invitational held at Windsong Farm Golf Club, senior Max Green shot rounds of 75-71 (+4) and is tied for 24th place … fellow senior Todd Duncan recorded rounds of 73-74 (+5) and is tied for 30th place … freshman Ryan Leach and redshirt freshman Hugh Donegan played in their first collegiate tournament on Sunday … Leach shot rounds of 77-79 (+14), while Donegan posted rounds of 82-77 (+17) … as a team, the Mountaineers shot rounds of 297-290 (+19) and are in 10th place in the 15-team field.

McCabe garnishes two All-America Cross Country honors and was named the Big 12 Women's Runner of the Year in 2021 and 2022 ...
