
West Named Student-Athlete of the Week

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Junior Kyle West of the West Virginia University baseball team has been named the WVU Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by University Apartments.
West swung a hot bat for the Mountaineers, hitting .600 (6-for-10) and tallying a 2.092 OPS in a three-game sweep over Baylor. He had multiple hits and at least one RBI in all three games, hitting home runs on Friday and Saturday.
The Hedgesville, West Virginia, native added doubles in the final two games as well and was all over the basepaths, scoring eight runs and stealing two bases.
West and the rest of the Mountaineers will be back in action Tuesday, April 30, for the Backyard Brawl against Pitt from PNC Park with first pitch scheduled for 7 p.m. ET. The game will air on ESPN2.
This Week in Baseball: West Virginia is back this week to play four games, beginning with a contest against Pitt on Tuesday, April 30, at PNC Park in Pittsburgh … first pitch against the Panthers is set for 7 p.m. ET and will air on ESPN2 … the Mountaineers will then hit the road for a three-game series at Cincinnati … first pitch on Friday, May 3, is set for 5 p.m., Saturday for 3 p.m., and Sunday for 1 p.m.
Last Week in Baseball: The Mountaineers swept Baylor in a three-game series at Kendrick Family Ballpark … WVU won on April 26, 18-5 … juniors JJ Wetherholt and Kyle West each hit home runs in the win while senior Reed Chumley collected five RBI … on April 28, senior Derek Clark pitched eight innings in a 5-2 victory, striking out eight in the process … West hit his team-leading 11th home run of the season in the win … the Mountaineers closed out the sweep with a 13-4 victory … junior Grant Hussey hit his eighth home run of the season in the triumph.
