MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – In her first event at the 2024 Division I Women's Swimming and Diving Championships at Gabrielsen Natatorium in Athens, Georgia, sophomore Mia Cheatwood from the West Virginia University men's and women's swimming and diving team set a program record.
In the preliminary round of the 100 breaststroke event, Cheatwood placed 28th with a final time of 59.73. Cheatwood broke the program record (1.00.08) she set at the 2024 Big 12 Swimming and Diving Championships on March 1.
"Mia had a great swim for her first NCAA championships," head coach Vic Riggs said. "To swim a program record and lifetime best is awesome. I'm very happy for her."
This is the first of two events Cheatwood will swim at the NCAA championships. She will compete in the 200 breaststroke event at 10 a.m. ET, on Saturday, March 23.
Sophomore Abigail Sullivan is also competing at the NCAA Championships this week. She will compete in the platform event on Saturday.
