
West Virginia Preps for Dual with No. 1 Oklahoma

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University gymnastics team continues Big 12 Conference competition against No. 1 Oklahoma on Friday, Feb. 23, in Norman, Oklahoma. Competition inside the Lloyd Noble Center is tabbed for 7:45 p.m. ET.
The conference meet will be broadcast live on Big 12 Now on ESPN+ with Chad McKee and Natalie Walker on the call. Live stats also are available at WVUsports.com.
Friday's meet marks the third meeting between West Virginia and Oklahoma over the last two seasons. The two teams met twice in 2023, first in a dual meet in Norman on Feb. 24, then again at the 2023 Big 12 Championship in Morgantown on March 18. Oklahoma earned wins in both meetings last season, including claiming the 2023 Big 12 Championship title on March 18.
Last time out, WVU tallied a season-high 195.25 team score to close out its Beauty and the Beast meet with the WVU wrestling team inside the WVU Coliseum in Morgantown on Feb. 18. West Virginia's total marked just its second score of 195.0 or higher this season and was good for third place in the final team standings. The Mountaineers posted a season-high 49.025 on vault and matched their season high on floor exercise with a 49.25. West Virginia secured a 48.5 on balance beam and added a 48.475 on the uneven bars.
In the final event standings, senior Kiana Lewis earned a share of the vault title, while fifth-year senior Abbie Pierson was just behind her in a tie for third. Pierson represented WVU in the all-around competition, tallying a 38.925 for fourth place. Freshman Amber Lowe tallied career-high scores of 9.875 on both bars and floor to lead the rotations. Lewis scored a season-high 9.875 to lead the vault squad, while freshman Julia Brown's 9.8 paced the beam lineup.
In this week's Road to Nationals rankings, the Mountaineers rank No. 51 overall with a season average of 194.561. Leading WVU's event rankings is the floor lineup, coming in at No. 45 nationally. The floor squad has a season high of 49.25 and an average of 48.964.
