MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – After scoring the game-winning goal on Oct. 13 at Baylor, sophomore defender
Olivia Shertzer of the West Virginia University women's soccer team has been named the WVU Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by University Apartments.
In the Mountaineers' second game of a two-match road swing through Texas, Shertzer found the back of the net for the first time in her career in the 44th minute. As time was expiring in the first half, she intercepted a Baylor pass and took it all the up the field to create her own opportunity. She dribbled into the 18-yard box and sent a rocket on frame for her first career tally and a 1-0 WVU lead.
Additionally, Shertzer and the West Virginia defense earned their seventh shutout of the season against the Bears. The clean sheet also marked the Mountaineers' first on the road since Oct. 15, 2023, at Kansas.
West Virginia now returns to Morgantown for its final two home matches of the regular season. Up first, the Mountaineers welcome Texas Tech to Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium on Thursday, Oct. 17. It's Fan Appreciation Night, and kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET.
