
WVU Places Conference-Best 60 on Winter Academic All-Big 12 Teams

IRVING, Texas - A total of 481 student-athletes have been named to the 2023 Winter Academic All-Big 12 Teams. There were 407 Big 12 athletes honored on the First Team, with 58 of those posting 4.0 grade point averages. An additional 74 student-athletes earned Second Team distinction.
The team recognizes the academic accomplishments of student-athletes at Conference institutions that participate in winter sports. The sports included for the winter season are men's basketball (36), women's basketball (44), equestrian (71), gymnastics (43), men's swimming and diving (45), women's swimming and diving (95) and wrestling (147).
Baylor equestrian (25), Iowa State women's basketball (11), Iowa State gymnastics (12), Oklahoma State men's basketball (7), Texas women's swimming and diving (23), West Virginia men's swimming and diving (18) and Northern Iowa wrestling (20) each led or co-led their respective sports in number of honorees. West Virginia combined for a Conference-best 60 honorees across all sports.
First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 20 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
