Wallace Named Student-Athlete of the Week

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Junior Landon Wallace of the West Virginia University baseball team has been named the WVU Student-Athlete of the Week presented by University Apartments after a big week against Marshall and Kansas.
Wallace hit .467 (7-for-15) with three home runs, two doubles, five RBIs, and eight runs scored along with an OPS of 1.729. He had a hit in all four games of the week including multiple hits in three of the games.
After a two-hit performance against the Herd in a midweek victory for the Mountaineers, Wallace hit a home run in game one of the series against Kansas. He then followed that showing with another two hits on Saturday, including a double, while scoring two runs.
The Roseville, California native saved his best game of the week for Sunday, hitting two home runs with three RBIs and three runs scored against the Jayhawks, leading WVU to a 12-3 win in the series finale.
On the season, Wallace is hitting .311 with five home runs, eight doubles, three triples, and 25 RBIs. He is also 10-for-10 on stolen bases, including two straight steals of home.
This Week: The Mountaineers (23-9, 3-3 Big 12) hit the road for four games this week beginning with Penn State on Tuesday, April 11, at 6 p.m. ET, before going to Stillwater for a weekend series against Oklahoma State. First pitch on Friday, April 14, and Saturday, April 15, against the Cowboys is set for 7 p.m. with Sunday, April 16, scheduled to start at 1 p.m.

This Week in Tennis: The West Virginia University women's tennis team (11-8, 1-5 Big 12) wraps up its regular season play this weekend with a pair of dual matches on April 14 – April 16 … starting off, WVU is set for a matchup against No. 31 Texas Tech, on Friday, April 14, at 5 p.m. ET … to conclude its home slate on Senior Day, the Mountaineers will take on No. 62 TCU, on Sunday, April 16, at 12 p.m.
Last Week in Tennis: West Virginia's match against No. 10 Iowa State on Saturday, April 8, was canceled … the match has been rescheduled for Tuesday, April 18, at 5 p.m. ET, and will be played at the University of Kansas prior to the Big 12 Championships.

Last Week in Track and Field: Senior Tessa Constantine competed in the 400-meter hurdles and finished the race in 59.99 … her performance is her best of the season, and it's the Sydney, Australia, native's best performance since she set her personal best at the 2022 Mountaineer Twilight … Constantine's classmate Sada Wright also put in a performance worthy of Mountaineer history … Wright tallied a discus throw of 44.20 meters … freshman Olivia Cress made her debut in the 100-meter sprint, crossing the finish line at 12:55 … the 5'11" jumps specialist also won her 200-meter dash heat … Cress ran the 200 meters in 25.95 and earned her personal best in the event … sophomore Cassandra Williamson competed in the 800-meter for the Mountaineers … Williamson led the way for WVU with a time of 2:08.84.
Notes: Constantine's time is good enough for fifth-best on the WVU all-time outdoor 400-meter hurdles list … Wright's effort is good enough for fourth best in program history.
