After scoring the game-winning goal in the 89th minute against No. 25 Samford on Sept. 4, fifth-year senior defender
Jordan Brewster of the West Virginia University women's soccer team has been named the WVU Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by University Apartments.
Brewster helped West Virginia go 1-0-1 last week, tying No. 11 Auburn, 0-0, on Sept. 1, and then scoring the game winner for a 1-0 win over No. 25 Samford on Sept. 4. She took a rocket of a free kick from midfield that went right out of reach of the Samford goalie for the last-minute score to lift WVU over the Bulldogs.
The North Canton, Ohio, native also anchored the Mountaineer defense and led them to a pair of shutouts against West Virginia's ranked foes last week. The clean sheets pushed WVU's total to four on the year, as well as three in a row.
West Virginia returns home to host Clemson on Thursday, Sept. 8, and Bucknell on Sunday, Sept. 11. Both matches will take place at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium in Morgantown, with Thursday's contest kicking off at 7 p.m. ET, and Sunday's match slated for 1 p.m.

Jordan Brewster's last-minute tally proved to be the difference … the North Canton, Ohio, native took a free kick from just shy of the midfield line and sent a rocket toward the goal, the ball was mishandled by the Samford goalie to give the Mountaineers' star defender an impressive score from distance … the final stats showed a very even contest, with WVU just edging Samford, 13-11, in shots … the two squads notched four shots on goal apiece, and West narrowly led Samford, 4-3, in corner kicks.
Notes: Brewster's tally against Samford was her first of the campaign and the seventh goal of her career, while the game-winning strike was the third of her career … Sunday's win over No. 25 Samford marked West Virginia's first win over a ranked opponent since topping No. 10 Virginia, 1-0, on April 3, 2021 … additionally, it was the team's first neutral-site ranked victory since defeating No. 9 Baylor, 3-0, on Nov. 4, 2018, to capture the 2018 Big 12 Championship crown … Samford and West Virginia met on the pitch for the first time in program history, as WVU now claims a 1-0 lead in the series … the Bulldogs became West Virginia's 118th different opponent all time … the Mountaineers' matchups with Clemson and Bucknell this week mark just the third meeting all time against each squad … Massey currently leads the Big 12 Conference in shutouts (4) and save percentage (0.885), while she is tied for No. 2 in the league in goals against average (0.500).
