Box Score MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – After falling to the No. 7-seeded Iowa State Cyclones, 4-0, in the opening round of the 2022 Big 12 Women's Tennis Championships on Thursday, the West Virginia tennis team has concluded its 2022 season, at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center, in Fort Worth, Texas,
 
"We battled with everything we had today and credit to our team for turning it around from Sunday's match," Mountaineer coach Miha Lisac said. "We came out a lot stronger in doubles and had great opportunities to take the doubles point, but ISU was more disciplined than we were.
 
I'm very proud of how the team responded and bounced back during singles play. We raised the intensity and battled against Iowa State on all courts. It wasn't enough to turn the match in our favor, but this young team of ours will be back and stronger next season."
 
Doubles Recap
In the No. 3 slot, senior Anastasiia Bovolskaia and freshman Tatiana Lipatova fell, 6-2, to Thasaporn Naklo and Christin Hsieh to open up doubles play.
 
Sophomore Momoko Nagato and freshman Kendall Kovick started in the No. 2 spot opposite of Miska Kadleckova and Sofia Cabezas. The Mountaineer tandem was bested by the Cyclones pair, 7-5, as Iowa State claimed the doubles point to take the early lead over WVU.
 
The final doubles match from the No. 1 slot went unfinished. No. 87-ranked pair of freshman Camilla Bossi and junior Ting-Pei Chang were up, 6-5, when the match was called.
 
Singles Recap
Starting in the No. 3 spot, Chang fell to Kadleckova in two sets, 6-4, 6-0, to begin singles competition.
 
Next up, Kovick came up short to No. 95-ranked Kajuru, 6-3, 6-3, before Chie Kezuka secured the match for the Cyclones against Lipatova, 7-6, 6-0.
 
The remaining matches from the No. 1, 4 and 6 slots went unfinished. The Mountaineers led in the No. 1 match, were tied in match No. 6 and trailed in match No. 4.
 
Thursday's contest marked the conclusion of the 2021-22 season. It also served as senior Bovolskaia final collegiate match. The Irkutsk, Russia, native, finished her career with 83 total wins, tied for No. 33 in program history, alongside Kaja Mrgole. On the year, Bossi led WVU with 13 singles wins and in doubles (9) with Chang. Two Mountaineers finished the 2022 season with 20 or more wins and five finished with 10 or more wins.
