MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University men's basketball coach
Bob Huggins made a quick trip over to Columbus, Ohio, on Wednesday to be recognized by the Ohio State Legislature for his induction earlier this year into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.
The resolution was introduced by Ohio representative Brett Hillyer and signed by Speaker of the House Bob Cupp.
Huggins' ties to the Buckeye State are deep, spanning back to his playing days for his father, Charlie, at Indian Valley South High where he was a three-time all-Ohio selection and the 1972 Ohio Player of the Year.
After a year playing at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, and then three seasons at WVU, Huggins returned to Ohio to serve as a graduate assistant coach on Eldon Miller's staff at Ohio State.
Huggins got his first head coaching job at Walsh College in North Canton, Ohio, in 1980 and also coached at Akron and Cincinnati where he led those two schools to a combined 15 NCAA Tournament appearances over a 21-year period.
In 41 overall seasons as a collegiate coach, his coaching record stands at 924-401 leading into Sunday's game against Buffalo. His 924 wins are the third-most in Division I basketball, trailing only Mike Krzyzewski and Jim Boeheim.
Fans will have the opportunity to see and get their pictures taken with Coach Huggins' Hall of Fame jacket, ring and trophy as part of
Bob Huggins Hall of Fame Day on Sunday. Spectators are encouraged to arrive to their seats early for a special Coach Huggins Hall of Fame recognition.
It's also a Family Day, with four tickets and a $25 concession voucher going for just $65. The matchup with Buffalo will include the annual canned food drive benefiting the Lions Club. Fans are encouraged to bring a canned food item to donate and will receive a ticket to a women's basketball home game this season.
The contest will tip off at 5 p.m. and will be televised on Big 12 Now on ESPN+.
Tickets are on sale through the Mountaineer Ticket Office and can be purchased by logging on to
