MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Guard Miles "Deuce" McBride continues to impress in personal workouts ahead of the 2021 NBA Draft, taking place on Thursday, July 29 at Brooklyn's Barclays Center.
CBS Sports NBA Draft expert Kyle Boone has McBride now going 17th overall in the first round to the Memphis Grizzlies. That's 11 spots higher than where USA Today's Scott Gleeson is predicting McBride to go at No. 28 to the Philadelphia 76ers.
McBride, who worked out for the Los Angeles Lakers last weekend, has also worked out for the New York Knicks, with picks at 19 and 21 in the first round, and the Boston Celtics, which has the 45th pick in the second round.
The Lakers have the 22nd pick in the first round.
"Miles McBride was one of the winners of the last month," Boone wrote. "Competed hard at the combine, measured well and looks like he can be a real defensive monster in the NBA like he was at West Virginia. He's a hard-working winner – the exact type of player Memphis' front office has targeted in the draft.
The website NBADraft.net also has McBride going No. 17 to the Grizzlies.
McBride averaged almost 16 points per game in leading West Virginia to a 19-10 record and an NCAA Tournament second-round appearance where the Mountaineers lost to Syracuse.
In 60 career games with West Virginia, the Cincinnati resident averaged 12.6 points, 3.3 assists and 3.1 rebounds per game. He also made 90 career steals while shooting 42% from the floor.
He was an All-Big 12 Second Team choice in 2021.
McBride is looking to become the second Bob Huggins-coached Mountaineer player and the seventh in school history to be selected in the first round. Forward Joe Alexander ended a 40-year drought when he was taken No. 8 overall in the first round by the Milwaukee Bucks in 2008.
All six of West Virginia's first-round picks were taken within the first nine picks of the draft, including top-two choices Mark Workman (one), Rod Hundley (one), Jerry West (two) and Rod Thorn (two).
Oklahoma State guard Cade Cunningham is likely to be the No. 1 overall pick in this year's to the Detroit Pistons.
