MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University senior golfer Mark Goetz completed the first 18 holes of the NCAA Golf Regional at The Sagamore Golf Club in Noblesville, Indiana, on Monday.
The Greensburg, Pennsylvania, native shot a 2-over-par 74 in the first round. Overall, Goetz is tied for 33rd on the individual leaderboard, but ranks tied for fifth among the individuals not on an advancing team. He is four shots back behind the individuals not on an advancing team and six shots back on the overall leaderboard.
"It was a challenging day with rain and cool temperatures, but Mark battled out there today," coach Sean Covich said. "Unfortunately, he lost a little momentum on the back nine, but he's still in good position. He put some work in after the round getting his ball striking where he wants it. I look for him to be in another good frame of mind with some confidence again tomorrow.
Goetz will tee off at 10:12 a.m. on Tuesday for the second round consisting of 18 holes.
