
McCabe Named Student-Athlete of the Week

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – After notching a first-place finish in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase at the 2021 Big 12 Outdoor Championship, Ceili McCabe of the West Virginia University track and field team has been named the WVU Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by University Apartments.
McCabe represented the Mountaineers at Big 12 Championships on Saturday, May 15, in Manhattan, Kansas. In just her third-ever steeplechase performance, McCabe finished in a winning time of 10:08.69. Her performance was WVU's first-ever Big 12 Championship win in the 3,000-meter steeplechase competition at the conference meet.
The Vancouver, British Columbia, native's time ranks fifth in WVU outdoor program history, while she also holds the No. 1 time with a 9:58.62 mark.
McCabe now holds the record time at Kansas State's R.V. Christian Track Complex.

Notes: WVU totaled four trips to the podium in three events on the weekend … McCabe's 3,000-meter steeplechase time was a record at the Kansas State's R.V. Christian Track Complex … McCabe now holds the first and fifth outdoor program record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase … additionally, Stair broke her career high in pole vault, while Moell matched her career high … WVU last won a Big 12 individual championship in 2015, when Kaitlyn Gillespie won the 10,000 meters in 33:45.56 … entering the meet, three Mountaineers rank in the top 10 of the Big 12 in their respective events ...
