MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Four from the West Virginia University rifle team will compete at the 2021 National Junior Olympic Championship from May 12-16, at the Margot V. Biermann Center, in Hillsdale, Michigan.

Sophomore Calista Smoyer, along with freshmen Molly McGhin and Becca Lamb will compete in the women's events, and freshman Matt Sanchez will shoot in the men's events, which begin on May 13.
  
Top contributors for the Mountaineers throughout their run this season, Smoyer averaged 581.3 in smallbore and 596.56 in air rifle, while McGhin averaged 582.9 in smallbore and 594.22 in air rifle.
 
Additionally, Lamb averaged 582.25 in smallbore and 591.7 in air rifle and Sanchez averaged 577.5 in smallbore and 592.29 in air rifle.
Two courses of 60 shots will be fired over three competition days for both disciplines. Air Rifle and Smallbore Rifle disciplines will compete across the same competition days. Smallbore courses of fire will be 3x20 relays for this year's competition. 

To earn an invitation to the National Junior Olympics, competitors at the state level had to shoot well enough to meet this year's cut-off scores. Of the more than 1,400 state competitors, 487 in total received an invite. Competitors hail from 44 states, with the largest number of athletes from Texas, Virginia and Pennsylvania.
 
Over 30 collegiate student-athletes from 14 universities around the country will also compete.
