MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Former West Virginia University guard Miles "Deuce" McBride scored 15 points, handed out nine assists and made four steals while logging a season-high 35:49 of court time in the New York Knicks' 116-103 victory over the Houston Rockets Thursday night.
With Knicks players R.J. Barrett and Obi Toppin in COVID-19 protocol, McBride was called up from the G-League and has been with the team for the last two games. Fifty-six of McBride's 69 minutes of NBA action have come in the last two games. He had eight points in a 105-96 loss to Golden State earlier this week.
"The coaches and the vets have just been encouraging me, just like 'stay ready, your opportunity is gonna come. It's a long year,'" McBride said after Thursday night's game.
"You look at his development and he's a strong two-way player," added Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau. "He plays with great energy on both sides of the ball and can guard multiple positions. He's unselfish. He sprays it out. If you sag off him, he's going to shoot it. He can make it and can finish."
McBride was averaging 26.8 points per game with the Westchester Knicks before his call up.
He was the 36th overall player taken in the second round of the 2021 NBA Draft.
Meanwhile, former Mountaineer Jevon Carter has appeared in 27 games for the Brooklyn Nets so far this year and is averaging 2.3 points and 1.1 steals per game. Most recently, he got five minutes of action in a Dec. 12 game against the Detroit Pistons. Two days later, he was placed in the NBA's health and safety protocols.
