Fifteen Former Mountaineers Make NFL 53-Man Rosters

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Fifteen former West Virginia University football players were listed on opening day NFL rosters as of Tuesday morning. Making the initial 53-man cut were:

Rasul Douglas, CB, Carolina Panthers
Mark Glowinski, OG, Indianapolis Colts
Will Grier, QB, Carolina Panthers
Nick Kwiatkoski, LB, Las Vegas Raiders
Bruce Irvin, LB, Seattle Seahawks
Karl Joseph, S, Cleveland Browns
David Long Jr., LB, Tennessee Titans
Colton McKivitz, OT, San Francisco 49ers
Adam Pankey, OT, Miami Dolphins
Geno Smith, QB, Seattle Seahawks
Quinton Spain, OG, Buffalo Bills
Trevon Wesco, TE, New York Jets
Kyzir White, LB, Los Angeles Chargers
Daryl Worley, CB, Dallas Cowboys
Linebacker Bruce Irvin is the longest tenured Mountaineer player in the league this year. The Atlanta native is beginning his ninth season overall and his fifth with the Seahawks. He has also played two seasons with Oakland and one each with Atlanta and Carolina.
West Virginia has five offensive lineman on opening day rosters – three tackles (McKivitz, Cajuste and Pankey) and two guards (Glowinski and Spain) – and four linebackers (Kwiatkoski, Irvin, Long Jr. and White).
Five former Mountaineers landed on practice squads.
They are first-year safety Kenny Robinson Jr. (Carolina), first-year cornerback Keith Washington Jr. (New Orleans Saints), fifth-year wide receiver Kevin White (San Francisco), fifth-year running back Wendell Smallwood (Pittsburgh Steelers) and third-year wide receiver Shelton Gibson (Washington Football Team).
Additionally, two former players - wide receivers David Sills V (New York Giants) and Tavon Austin (San Francisco) - are listed on injured reserve and will not play this season.
The NFL season begins this Thursday night with games continuing on Sunday and Monday.
