MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - Building a brand is no easy task, but with access to proper resources, anything can be accomplished. For the West Virginia University women's basketball team, INFLCR (Influencer) provides the Mountaineers and their student-athletes with the ability to promote each particular brand on social media.
INFLCR is a software that allows teams to store, track and deliver content to student-athletes, coaches, alumni, social media correspondents and other brand ambassadors. The Mountaineer women's basketball team, in particular, is one of the 17 varsity sports teams at WVU who use INFLCR on daily basis.
In June 2020, the West Virginia University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and INFLCR announced an extension of the service to the entire department.
"West Virginia has been a national brand for a long time," WVU coach
Mike Carey said. "It is important that we continue to provide resources to help our players build their personal brands and tell their stories, both as athletes and as people. Extending our partnership with INFLCR will continue to position our players for success for years to come."
"We were excited to extend our partnership with INFLCR," WVU Senior Associate Athletics Director/External Affairs
Matt Wells said. "After seeing the results in year one, we knew it was imperative to continue this relationship.
"We know how important it is for student-athletes to access content quickly and effectively, and the INFLCR platform has enabled us to accomplish this across the athletics department."
Since the beginning of WVU's partnership with INFLCR, the Mountaineers have been one of the highest-performing programs in college athletics, especially in women's basketball. In January 2020, West Virginia women's basketball, along with men's basketball, was named INFLCR's "Client of the Week." With 80 percent activity, student-athletes shared or downloaded 337 pieces of content to promote their brands on social media.
The high activity of programs like the WVU women's basketball team allows student-athletes to exponentially increase their brand by downloading, sharing and reposting content from INFLCR. By taking advantage of this valuable resource, student-athletes and the Mountaineers will continue to effectively utilize their social media platforms to grow their brand.
