MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Former West Virginia University offensive lineman Quinton Spain was recently recognized by the Buffalo Bills for his hard work during the offseason.
He received the "Individual Award" from Buffalo's strength and conditioning staff as part of its "Iron Bills Games."
Spain told Buffalo News sportswriter Vic Carucci the award was the result of him dropping his weight from 351 to 331 pounds during his time away from the team while working out at his offseason home in Morgantown.
Spain credited healthy eating, featuring more seafood and vegetables prepared by his personal chef, and two-a-day workout sessions in the weight room he set up in his garage as the two biggest factors for his weight loss.
The Petersburg, Virginia, native's football career has really blossomed after going undrafted following his senior season at WVU in 2014.
Spain, who uses the handle Mr. Undrafted on his Twitter and Instagram accounts, signed a free agent rookie deal with the Tennessee Titans in 2015 and earned a roster spot that season. He made his NFL debut against the Bills on Oct. 11, 2015 and earned his first NFL start a month later against the Oakland Raiders.
In 2016, Spain won the Titans' starting left guard job and he was also Tennessee's starting guard in 2017 and 2018 before signing a free agent deal with the Bills last year.
He did not allow a sack last season for the Bills and played a team-high 1,092 snaps to earn a three-year contract extension last spring, worth $15 million.
He appeared in 50 career games for the Mountaineers from 2011-14, earning second team All-Big 12 honors in 2013 and first team All-Big 12 honors by ESPN.com in 2014.
