MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Jonnie and Michelle Wie West are the parents of a daughter born last Friday, according to a post made on Wie's Instagram account.
They named their daughter Makenna Kamalei Yoona West; Kamalei is Hawaiian for "beloved child."
Wie, born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii, won the U.S. Women's Open championship in 2014 and owns five career victories on the LPGA Tour. In 2003, at age 14, she became the youngest player to make an LPGA cut at the Kraft Nabisco Championship.
A year later, she was given a sponsor's exemption to play in the Sony Open in Hawaii, becoming the fourth, and youngest, female to play a PGA Tour event.
Jonnie, the son of West Virginia and NBA great Jerry West, was a four-year performer for the Mountaineer men's basketball team and was a member of coach
Bob Huggins' Final Four squad in 2010.
Jonnie appeared in 77 career games for the Mountaineers and scored a career-high 12 points in a 10-point loss to St. John's during his junior season in 2011.
He prepped at Lausanne Collegiate School in Memphis, Tennessee, when his father was general manager of the Memphis Grizzlies.
Jonnie is currently the director of basketball operations for the Golden State Warriors.
The couple married last August.
