Floor Exercise Lineup Nationally Ranked

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University gymnastics team continues to rank in the top 25 of the Road to Nationals Rankings on floor exercise.
The Mountaineers (3-4, 0-1 Big 12) rank in the top 25 on floor for the second consecutive week, checking in at No. 21. WVU earned its event ranking based on a season average of 48.981. West Virginia sits just outside the top 25 on uneven bars at No. 26 (48.819 avg.). WVU also ranks No. 34 on vault (48.731 avg.) and No. 35 on balance beam (48.644 avg.).
Ranked No. 24 in last week's rankings, the Mountaineers fell to No. 26 (195.175 avg.) overall following a third-place, 194.85 showing at George Washington's quad meet on Jan. 31.
Reigning National Champion Oklahoma ranks No. 1 this week with a 197.763 season average. Florida (197.594 avg.) is No. 2, and Utah (196.944 avg.) follows at No. 3. Denver (196.940 avg.) ranks No. 4, while UCLA (196.925 avg.) rounds out the top five.
Minnesota (196.763 avg.) sits at No. 6, Alabama (196.694 avg.) follows at No. 7 and Michigan (196.681 avg.) ranks No. 8. LSU (196.645 avg.) comes in at No. 9, and Georgia completes the top 10 with a 196.460 season average.
Freshman Kianna Yancey continues to rank inside the top 50 in the all-around and uneven bars. The Hatfield, Pennsylvania, native is tied at No. 36 in the all-around (39.15 avg.) and is tied at No. 42 on bars (9.844 avg.).
Regionally, WVU continues to rank No. 4 in the Southeast Region. The Mountaineers also rank No. 3 on bars, No. 4 on floor, No. 5 on beam and No. 6 on vault in the region.
Kianna Yancey owns four top-25 regional rankings. She is tied at No. 4 in the all-around, her highest event ranking, and is tied at No. 5 on bars, No. 13 on floor (9.838 avg.) and No. 19 on vault (9.787 avg.).
Sophomore Esperanza Abarca follows Kianna Yancey in the bars rankings and is tied at No. 12, moving up five spots from last week with a season average of 9.8. Sophomore Kendra Combs and freshman Kayla Yancey are tied at No. 23 with matching 9.744 season averages.
Freshman Abbie Pierson paces the beam lineup, ranking No. 14 regionally (9.806 avg.). Senior Abby Kaufman ranks No. 22 (9.769 avg.), and junior McKenna Linnen is tied at No. 25 (9.731 avg.).
On floor, senior Erica Fontaine ranks No. 25 with a 9.794 average, while Pierson comes in at No. 26 with a 9.792 season average.
Pierson also paces the vault lineup and is tied at No. 13 regionally (9.813 avg.). Senor Julia Merwin checks-in at No. 16 (9.8 avg.). Kaufman also ranks No. 22 (9.783 avg.).
WVU continues to rank No. 4 overall in the Big 12 Conference. The Mountaineers also sit at No. 4 in all four events.
