MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – After earning a pair of first-place event finishes in the Mountaineers' home season opener, senior Chloe Cluchey of the West Virginia University gymnastics team has been named the WVU Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by University Apartments.

The Woodbridge, Virginia, native matched her career-high score of 9.925 on floor exercise for the outright victory on Sunday. She has now won the event title in two meets this season and scored below 9.85 just once.

Cluchey also finished in a three-way tie for first on vault with a season-best mark of 9.8 and tied for 10th overall on uneven bars with a 9.675 total.

The Mountaineers swept their competition on Sunday with a season-high 196.025 showing. New Hampshire finished second (195.125) and Temple finished third (191.925). Included in WVU's score was a season-high 49.475 on floor.

This Week in Women's Basketball: West Virginia returns to Morgantown on Sunday, Feb. 2, as the Mountaineers get set to host Iowa State at the WVU Coliseum … Sunday's contest against ISU is National Girls and Women in Sports Day, with postgame autographs following the conclusion of the game … Sunday's game against the Cyclones will be televised on ESPNU, with opening tip set for 2 p.m. ET.

Last Week in Women's Basketball: The Mountaineers fell in a pair of Big 12 contests this week … West Virginia lost to Oklahoma State, 57-55, on Wednesday, Jan. 22, at the WVU Coliseum … WVU's scoring effort vs. OSU was led by redshirt junior guard Kysre Gondrezick, who finished with 11 points … redshirt senior guard Tynice Martin was second on the team with nine points against the Cowgirls … sophomore forward Kari Niblack led the Mountaineers on the glass, posting 10 rebounds … WVU suffered another loss on Sunday, Jan. 26, as the Mountaineers fell to TCU, 73-60 … Martin led the scoring effort against the Horned Frogs, with 24 points … Gondrezick also scored in double figures at TCU, adding 13 points and three 3-pointers … junior center Blessing Ejiofor and Niblack paced the Mountaineers on the glass, tallying eight rebounds … senior guard Lucky Rudd also dished out six assists in the loss.

Notes: West Virginia and Iowa State meet for the 16th time in the series on Sunday … WVU holds the all-time advantage in the series, leading 10-5 … the Mountaineers hold a 5-2 advantage against the Cyclones in Morgantown … West Virginia has won three of its last four meetings against Iowa State … WVU and ISU split the season series a year ago, with each team earning a win at home … with her 24 points against TCU, Martin now has 1,839 career points and moved to No. 4 on WVU's all-time scoring list, passing Teana Muldrow (2014-18; 1,819) … Martin needs 63 points to surpass Bria Holmes (2013-16; 2,001) and sit at No. 3 … Gondrezick leads the Mountaineers in scoring (16.6 per game) and steals (22), while Niblack is the team's leader in rebounding, averaging 6.8 per game … Smith is the team leader is assists, with 61 on the season.

This Week in Rifle: The No. 2-ranked Mountaineers (8-0, 7-0 GARC) head to Columbus, Ohio, for a shoulder-to-shoulder match against No. 13 Ohio State on Saturday, Feb. 1 … the contest is set to begin at 8 a.m. ET, inside the Lt. Hugh W. Wylie Range.

Last Week in Rifle: West Virginia opened its spring season on Sunday with a 4683-4648 win over No. 11 Army at the Bill McKenzie Rifle Range inside the WVU Shell Building ... the Mountaineers topped the Black Knights in both disciples, winning smallbore, 2316-2306, and air rifle, 2367-2342 … five Mountaineers counted toward the team totals: seniors Milica Babic and Morgan Phillips, junior Sarah Osborn, sophomore Verena Zaisberger and freshman Akihito Shimizu.

Notes: Junior David Koenders placed first overall with an aggregate total of 1179, while Army's Clayton Hanson and Babic tied for second with matching 1171s … Koenders, a native of Mossautal, Germany, also won air rifle outright with a season-high score of 597 (100-99-99-100-100-99), two shots shy of a career high … in smallbore, Phillips, a native of Salisbury, Maryland, shot a winning, 588 mark (197 kneeling, 198 prone, 193 standing) … additionally, junior Noah Barker recorded a personal best in Sunday's match, shooting 579 smallbore to place fifth … with the team win, WVU improves to 40-10 all-time against Army … the Mountaineers' season aggregate average of 4709 ranks second nationally ... defending NCAA National Champion TCU sits on top with a 4712.111 season average.

This Week in Swimming and Diving: The Mountaineers are set to compete in a pair of dual meets this week … on Thursday, Jan. 30, Villanova comes to town for a mid-week dual, beginning at 2 p.m. ET, at the Aquatic Center at Mylan Park … on Saturday, Feb. 1, WVU closes the regular season against George Washington, with action at the Aquatic Center set to begin at 11 a.m. ET.

Last Week in Swimming and Diving: The men's team was off last week, but the women's team earned a 167-133 victory over Iowa State on Saturday … WVU collected 14 of 16 event victories, including both relay races … senior Morgan Bullock paced WVU with four total wins and three solo victories … freshman Emily Haimes also picked up multiple wins, while freshman Holly Darling earned a sweep of events in the diving well … Bullock's wins came as a member of the 200-yard medley relay team (1:44.69), 200 butterfly (2:03.41), 100 fly (55.47) and 200 individual medley (2:05.77) … Darling tallied wins on 1- and 3-meter springboards, with NCAA Zones-qualifying scores in both events … she earned marks of 297.90 on 3-meter and 276.23 on 1-meter.

Notes: West Virginia moves to 2-2 in dual meets with Saturday's victory and 2-0 in Big 12 action … Saturday's win was WVU's first over the Cyclones since 2017-18 … WVU and ISU met for the seventh consecutive season on Saturday … the men's and women's teams compete against Villanova for the sixth-straight season and the ninth time in program history … the two squads also square off against GW for the first time since the 1996-97 season.

This Week in Wrestling: West Virginia (3-8, 0-3 Big 12) is off this week … the Mountaineers will return to the mat on Friday, Feb. 7, to host South Dakota State at the WVU Coliseum in Morgantown … the contest is slated to begin at 7 p.m. ET and will be the first home conference bout of the season for the Mountaineers … the match against the Jackrabbits is WVU's annual Cradles for Cancer for breast cancer awareness … WVU Medicine will sponsor the match and collect donations for the WVU Cancer Institute … fans are encouraged to wear pink and can get the official WVU sports "pink" t-shirt with a donation of $10 or more to WVU Medicine … the contest against the Jackrabbits also is Senior Day, as WVU celebrates the careers of its four seniors … the first 150 fans in attendance will receive a free Nike dri-fit t-shirt, with autographs taking place following the match.

Notes: Redshirt sophomore Noah Adams was ranked No. 2 in the first NCAA Coaches Panel Poll of the season last week … junior Nick Kiussis (No. 25 at 165) and senior Brandon Ngati (No. 33 at 285) also were selected in the first poll … Adams was named the Big 12 Wrestler of the Week on Jan. 21 following a pair of wins against ranked Big 12 opponents on Jan. 17 and Jan. 19 … Adams is 24-0 to start the season and leads the team in pins (5), major decisions (6), and he is tied for the team lead with two wins via technical fall … Ngati is second on the team with 15 wins this season and paces the Mountaineers with 15 decisions.

This Week in Track and Field: West Virginia travels to University Park, Pennsylvania, this weekend for the PSU National Open … action at Penn State's Ashenfelter III Indoor Track is set to begin on Friday, Jan. 31, and continue through Saturday, Feb. 1.

Notes: WVU competes at Penn State on Friday and Saturday for the 10th time since the start of the 2014-15 season … this weekend's meet marks the first of two trips to Penn State for West Virginia this season … the squad will return to the home of the Nittany Lions on Friday, Feb. 21, for the Penn State Tune-Up … the Mountaineers tallied three victories and 11 top-eight finishes at last season's PSU National Open.

This Week in Gymnastics: West Virginia (2-2, 0-1 Big 12) hits the road once again, as a trip to Washington, D.C., on Friday, Jan. 31, pits the Mountaineers against host George Washington and William & Mary … competition is set to begin at 7 p.m. ET inside the Charles E. Smith Center.

Last Week in Gymnastics: Three scores of 9.9 or better on floor exercise helped push WVU to a first-place, 196.025 showing in its home season opener at the WVU Coliseum on Sunday … the Mountaineers swept their competition, as New Hampshire finished second (195.125) and Temple finished third (191.925) … of note, the Mountaineers' 196.025 score is a season best and ties the 41st-highest team score in program history.

Notes: Following two straight meets away from Morgantown, WVU totaled season highs on three events in its home opener ... the Mountaineers were victorious on vault with a matching season-high total of 48.9 ... WVU also scored season highs on the uneven bars (48.9) and floor exercise (49.475) events ... the Wildcats won balance beam with a 49.15 total … a WVU gymnast also finished first on a trio of events, including a win on floor for senior Chloe Cluchey … the Woodbridge, Virginia, native collected her first 9.9 of the season, matching her career-high total of 9.925 in the event … she also tied for the vault win with classmate Julia Merwin and Temple's Ariana Castrence, with each gymnast notching 9.8 scores ... additionally, freshman Kianna Yancey posted a winning, 9.875 on bars, good for a career high … Yancey also took home the all-around crown for the first time as a Mountaineer, finishing in front of New Hampshire's Riley Freehling with a 39.15 total … with Sunday's wins, WVU improves to 30-10 all-time against New Hampshire and 49-1 against Temple ... junior McKenna Linnen also eclipsed 500 career points following her performances on beam (9.725) and floor (9.875).

This Week in Golf: After a winter hiatus, the Mountaineers open their spring season on Sunday, Feb. 2 in Kissimmee, Florida … WVU will square off in a head-to-head match against Connecticut at the Reunion Resort.

Notes: West Virginia returns to competition on Sunday for the first time since competing in the Ka'anapali Classic Collegiate Invitational from Nov. 1-3 … the Mountaineers finished in seventh place with a four-under-par team score of 280 in the third and final round, putting them at 273-273-280=826 for the tournament … senior Philipp Matlari, juniors Matthew Sharpstene, Logan Perkins, Mark Goetz, sophomore Kurtis Grant and freshman Nico Lang will compete for WVU in Florida on Sunday.

This Week in Tennis: West Virginia opens its spring season this weekend, against Towson on Friday, Jan. 31 and Toledo on Sunday, Feb. 2 … Friday's season opener is scheduled to start at 5 p.m. ET, while Sunday's contest is set to begin at 10 a.m. … WVU meets Towson for the second consecutive season, and gets set to square off against Toledo for the first time since 1993 … the Mountaineers hold an all-time record of 11-1 against the two teams.

Last Fall in Tennis: WVU compiled a combined record of 63-37 (42-24 in singles, 21-13 in doubles) through five tournaments last fall ... Courteau led the Mountaineers with an overall record of 19-10 ... Courteau and Bovolskaia tied for the team lead in singles wins, with 10 ... Courteau also led the team in doubles wins, with nine ... Caputo led the team in win percentage (.700) ... Bovolskaia (16), Caputo (14), Courteau (19) and freshman Kat Lyman (14) each posted at least 10 wins last fall ... Courteau and Lyman's appearance in the quarterfinals of the 2019 ITA Regional marked WVU's first appearance in the fourth round since 2013, when Kaja Mrgole and Oana Manole represented West Virginia against William & Mary's Maria Belaya and Jeltje Loomans ... Bovolskaia's appearance in the round of 16 marked WVU's first appearance in the third round since 2017, when Lyn Yuen Choo reached the round of 16 after upsetting No.14-seed Ines Milosevic of Penn State, 6-0, 6-3.
