MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University Director of Athletics Shane Lyons has unveiled the five tournaments that make up the 2019 fall tennis schedule.
"We are looking forward to getting our fall schedule under way and get the competitive part of the preseason under our belts," coach Miha Lisac said. "We have a good schedule ahead of us with home and away tournaments which will provide a great opportunity for us to get ready for the spring."
The Mountaineer tennis team begins its fall campaign in Charleston, West Virginia, where WVU is set to host its first joint tournament with Marshall: Thunder in the Mountains. The three-day tournament is schedule to take place from Sept. 20-22, as West Virginia and Marshall welcome Toledo, James Madison, Akron and Youngstown State.
WVU then travels to Williamsburg, Virginia, for the William & Mary Hidden Duel from Sept. 27-29. West Virginia last competed at William & Mary during the fall 2016 season.
Following two weeks off from competition, the Mountaineers return to Morgantown to host the Martha Thorn Invitational from Oct. 18-20. WVU is set to host George Washington, Akron, Navy, Ball State and Delaware in its annual tournament.
The Mountaineers travel to Blacksburg, Virginia, from Oct. 25-29, for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Atlantic Regional Tournament. This year's regional is hosted by Virginia Tech.
West Virginia caps its fall season in Louisville, Kentucky, at the Louisville Tennis Classic from Nov. 1-3. The event marks the third consecutive year the Mountaineers will compete at the tournament.
