
Osborn Ascends Podium at Championship

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Rising junior Sarah Osborn of the West Virginia University rifle team finished second in the junior women's 50m rifle 3 positions competition on June 26, at the 2019 USA Shooting National Championships for Rifle and Pistol at the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit in Fort Benning, Georgia.
A native of Hampton, Virginia, Osborn placed second with a final score of 2309. She shot 1152 on Tuesday, June 25 and 1155 on Wednesday for a two day, qualifying score of 2307. Osborn finished seventh in the final with a mark of 386.8 and earned two additional points toward her final score.
Osborn's two-day score of 2307 was good enough for 11th place in the open competition.
Incoming freshman Malori Brown competed alongside Osborn in the women's 50m rifle 3 positions and finished eighth in the junior competition with a final score of 2298. The China Spring, Texas, native qualified with a 2294 mark, shooting 1150 on day one and 1144 on day two. She placed fifth in the final with a 412.7 total and earned four additional points toward her score.
Brown's two-day total of 2294 placed her 20th in the open competition.
Of note, Mountaineer All-American Ginny Thrasher captured the women's 50m rifle 3 positions title with a score of 2364. The Springfield, Virginia, native finished first on both days of competition, shooting 1181 on Tuesday and 1175 on Wednesday for a two-day score of 2356. She also finished first in the final with a 460.7 mark and earned eight additional points toward her final total.
