MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Junior Morgan Bullock of the West Virginia University women's swimming and diving team opened the 2019 NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships with the 200 individual medley, on Thursday morning, in Austin, Texas.
Bullock earned a 54th-place finish with a time of 1:59.92 in the event's preliminaries. The Zeeland, Michigan, native placed fifth in her heat and moved up 14 spots from her seeding going into the meet.
In all, 63 swimmers competed in the event. The top-16 times earned second swims at Thursday's finals session, with the top eight earning bids to the championship final.
"It was a solid swim and start to Morgan's meet," WVU coach Vic Riggs said. "It's always good to get the first swim under your belt, and I felt she did a good job on making some adjustments from Big 12s in her preparation for today's race."
Thursday marked the beginning of Bullock's second career appearance at the NCAA Women's Championships. The 2018 honorable mention All-American is set to swim in the 100 butterfly on Friday and the 200 butterfly, an event she enters ranked No. 24 nationally, on Saturday. Preliminaries for both days are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. ET, at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center, with the finals sessions set for 6 p.m.
ESPN will provide live coverage for Friday and Saturday's finals sessions on ESPNU. Preliminary sessions for both days can be viewed via a live stream at texassports.com. For live results, fans can follow along on sidearmstats.com.
