West Virginia Falls in Lubbock

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University tennis team (8-4, 0-2 Big 12) suffered its second conference loss of the season, losing to No. 25-ranked Texas Tech, 6-1, on Friday evening at the McLeod Tennis Center in Lubbock, Texas.
"It was a tough day on the courts playing against Texas Tech," said head coach Miha Lisac. "Texas Tech played well, and in some cases, we couldn't get enough going to give us a better opportunity today. Now, we will focus on preparing our second match against TCU.
Doubles Recap
In the No. 1 slot, juniors Sofia Duran and Christina Jordan were defeated, 1-6, by Lana Rush and Kennedy Bridgforth to open doubles play.
Starting in the No. 2 slot, senior Paula Goetz and freshman Anastasiia Bovolskaia paired up for the first time this season. The Mountaineer duo was defeated by Felicity Maltby and Nell Miller, 2-6, as the Lady Raiders claimed the doubles team point.
The final doubles match from the No. 3 slot went unfinished. Olivia Peet and Sydney Jones led senior Abigail Rosiello and sophomore Anne-Sophie Courteau, 4-3, when the match was called.

The first singles match to finish came from the No. 1 slot, where Jordan was defeated by Felicity Maltby in two sets, 1-6, 0-6.
In the No. 3 slot, Bovolskaia was bested by Nell Miller, 2-6, 2-6, as Texas Tech claimed their second two-set victory of the evening.
Courteau went toe-to-toe with Kennedy Bridgforth in the No. 4 slot. Bridgforth proved to be too much for the sophomore, as Courteau was defeated in two sets, 3-6, 2-6. With the win, Texas Tech claimed its fourth team point and clinched the match. The remaining matches were played out.
Finishing shortly after from the No. 2 slot, Duran was defeated by Francesca Sella in two sets, 4-6, 1-6.
Starting in the No. 5 slot, sophomore Giovanna Caputo was defeated by Olivia Peet in two sets, 4-6, 4-6.
In the No. 6 slot, freshman Nicole Roc won the first set, 6-3, over Lana Rush but stumbled in the second set, losing 4-6. In the super tiebreaker, Roc emerged victorious, defeating Rush, 10-7, in the final set to claim WVU's only win of the evening.

Following a day off on Saturday, the Mountaineers will next compete on Sunday, March 17, against TCU at the at the Bayard H. Friedmann Tennis Center in Fort Worth, Texas. WVU's match against TCU is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. ET. Fans can follow the action against the Horned Frogs via TCU's live stats page.
WVU is seeking its first win over TCU on Sunday. Last season, the Mountaineers competed against the Horned Frogs twice. The two teams last competed at the 2018 Big 12 tournament, where TCU defeated WVU, 5-1, in the first round.
