Three Mountaineers Nationally Ranked

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Three from the West Virginia University gymnastics team own a combined four national rankings in this week's Road to Nationals Rankings.
Senior Kirah Koshinski is ranked on two events, checking in at No. 6 on vault with a 9.895 average and at No. 15 on floor exercise with a 9.9 average. The Berwick, Pennsylvania, native has finished first on floor in all five meets this season.
Senior Jaquie Tun ranks No. 41 on floor exercise with a 9.865 average, while freshman Esperanza Abarca debuts in the balance beam rankings at No. 27 after scoring 9.85 in her first career beam lineup appearance on Feb. 2.
The Mountaineers (8-4, 0-3) continue to rank nationally on floor exercise and vault, checking in this week at No. 10 (49.16 avg.) and No. 19 (48.93 avg.), respectively. WVU remains steady in the overall rankings and sits at No. 27 with a 195.09 average.
Regionally, WVU ranks No. 3 in the Southeast. The Mountaineers also rank No. 3 on vault and floor exercise, No. 5 on balance beam (48.555 avg.) and No. 6 on uneven bars (48.445 avg.).
Koshinski ranks No. 2 on vault, following Georgia's Sydney Snead, who boasts a 9.925 average. Three Mountaineers sit behind Koshinski, with Tun checking-in at No. 16 (9.785 avg.) and junior Julia Merwin and freshman Rachel Hornung tied at No. 25 (9.74 avg.).
On floor exercise, Koshinski ranks No. 6, and Tun ranks No. 10. Junior Abby Kaufman follows at No. 21 (9.8 avg.).
Abarca paces the Mountaineers on balance beam and uneven bars. A native of The Colony, Texas, she ranks No. 7 on beam and is followed by Hornung at No. 18 (9.75 avg.) and junior Erica Fontaine at No. 25 (9.712 avg.). Abarca also ranks No. 10 on bars (9.8 avg.), with Tun following at No. 21 (9.75 avg.) and freshman Kendra Combs sitting at No. 23 (9.738 avg.).
Kaufman has competed in the all-around in all five meets this season and ranks No. 10 with a 38.74 average. Hornung ranks No. 14 (38.6 avg.), and Koshinski follows at No. 17 (38.25 avg.).
The Mountaineers rank No. 4 in the Big 12 Conference. WVU ranks as high as No. 3 on floor exercise and No. 4 on vault, uneven bars and balance beam.

WVU is coming off a season best, 196.125 showing in a third-place finish against No. 7 Denver (197.45) and Iowa State (196.7) on Feb. 2 at the WVU Coliseum. The Mountaineers tallied season highs on uneven bars (48.975), balance beam (48.85) and floor exercise (49.375). Koshinski tied for first on floor exercise with a season-best matching 9.925, placed second on vault with a 9.9 and finished third on balance beam with a career-best 9.875. Combs paced WVU on uneven bars and finished fifth overall with a career-high 9.85 mark.
