Two Event Lineups Continue to Pull Rank

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University gymnastics team continues to rank in the top 20 of the Road to Nationals Rankings on vault and floor exercise.
The Mountaineers (8-2, 0-1) moved up two spots to No. 10 on floor with a 49.106 season average. WVU also ranks No. 17 on vault with a 48.931 average.
Following two weeks at No. 26, WVU dropped back one spot this week to No. 27 overall with a 194.831 average.
Senior Kirah Koshinski continues to rank nationally on vault and floor. The Berwick, Pennsylvania, native moved up one spot to No. 7 on vault (9.894 avg.) and two spots to No. 15 on floor (9.894 avg.). Additionally, classmate Jaquie Tun moved up 11 spots to No. 31 on floor (9.869 avg.).
Regionally, WVU continues to rank No. 3 in the Southeast. The Mountaineers also rank No. 3 on vault and floor, No. 4 on balance beam (48.481 avg.) and No. 7 on uneven bars (48.313 avg.).
Koshinski sits at No. 2 on vault for the second consecutive week. Tun follows at No. 13 (9.8 avg.), and junior Julia Merwin ranks No. 24 (9.744 avg.).
Four Mountaineers rank on floor, paced by Koshinski at No. 5. Tun ranks No. 11 and is followed by sophomore McKenna Linnen at No. 24 (9.788 avg.) and junior Abby Kaufman at No. 25 (9.781 avg.).
Freshman Rachel Hornung ranks No. 17 on balance beam with a 9.744 average. Senior Carly Galpin and junior Erica Fontaine follow at No. 24 (9.713 avg.) and No. 25 (9.712 avg.), respectively.
Freshman Esperanza Abarca moves up four spots to No. 10 on uneven bars with a 9.8 average. In the all-around, Kaufman ranks No. 10 (38.694 avg.), while Hornung ranks No. 13 (38.6 avg.) and Koshinski sits at No. 17 (38.25 avg.).
The Mountaineers rank No. 4 overall in the Big 12 Conference. WVU sits at No. 3 on vault and floor and No. 4 on bars and beam.
Koshinski ranks No. 4 on vault and floor and is followed by Tun at No. 6 on floor. In the all-around, Kaufman ranks No. 9, and Hornung ranks No. 10.
Next up for the Mountaineers is a Big 12 Conference home tri meet against No. 7 Denver and Iowa State on Saturday, Feb. 2, at 7 p.m., at the WVU Coliseum. It's Military Appreciation Day, and free admission will be provided to all past and present military members who show their I.D. Family and guest of the military members will receive group-rate tickets of $3 at the door. Additionally, select concessions will be available for $1 each, and red, white and blue light-up wands will be given to the first 500 fans.
