MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Due to inclement weather, the West Virginia University golf team's first round of play has been suspended at the VCU Invitational in Richmond, Virginia, on Monday.
Just two hours into the first round of action, the conditions forced golfers back into the clubhouse for the remainder of the day. Players will now tee off in an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start on Tuesday and will finish the first 18 holes before immediately starting the second. The event has been shortened from 54 holes to 36.
Unofficially, WVU was in second place at three-under par through five holes when play was called. Sophomore Matthew Sharpstene sits atop the individual leaderboard after shooting three under through the first five holes.
