MORGANTOWN, W.Va – Five members of the West Virginia University women's tennis team were named ITA Scholar-Athletes.
Additionally, the Mountaineers were named an All-Academic Team for the fifth consecutive year, as announced by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).
Graduate Yvon Martinez (engineering), rising seniors Paula Goetz (industrial engineering) and Kirsten White (exercise physiology) and rising sophomores Giovanna Caputo (journalism) and Anne-Sophie Courteau (biology) were all recognized by the ITA for their outstanding work in the classroom.
"It is a great recognition for individual players as well as the team to be named an All-Academic Team by the ITA," Coach Miha Lisac said of the announcement. "The award is a recognition of their high academic standards, hard work and support that the academic staff provides to our athletes."
To be named a scholar-athlete by the ITA, a student-athlete must meet a set of academic and athletic standards that consist of: being named a varsity letterwinner, have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year and must be enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters.
