MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Rising senior Max Sear of the West Virginia University golf team was named a Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar by the Golf Coaches Association of America on Wednesday.
Sear is the second straight Mountaineer to earn the accolade, as Chris Williams became the program's first honoree last season.
"I'm very proud of Max's work on the golf course and in the classroom," coach Sean Covich said. "He sets a great example for our younger guys of how to balance the demands of playing high-level golf and achieving success academically."
The Unionville, Ontario, Canada, native led West Virginia last season, setting a program record with a single-season scoring average of 73.03. He came away with five top-10 finishes in tournament play, including a runner-up finish at the Rutherford Intercollegiate in April.
To be eligible for Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50 percent of his team's competitive rounds, have a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I, 78.0 in Division II, 78.0 in NAIA and 79.0 in Division III and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
