MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University tennis team embarks on its second road trip of the spring this weekend, as the squad takes on border-rival Maryland Saturday, March 10, at the Maryland Tennis Facility.
Saturday's match is slated to begin at noon, from College Park, Maryland. The match will mark the 17th meeting between the two schools in a series that began in 1977.
"It's important to realize that this weekend will be another great opportunity for us to realize that we are getting closer and closer," fifth-year coach Miha Lisac said. "I'm looking for us to capitalize on that opportunity, and I'm looking for us to put ourselves in position to win."
Maryland enters the weekend with a 4-5 record after splitting a pair of matches last weekend. The Terrapins fell to No. 26 Princeton on March 2, 4-0, in Princeton, New Jersey, before defeating Colombia, 4-3, on March 3, in New York City.
Eva Alexandrova and Millie Stretton lead UM with five singles victories apiece. The pair also paces the team with five doubles wins.
Last weekend, the Mountaineers (4-4) stumbled out of the gate, falling to No. 35 Old Dominion, 4-0, at the Summit Tennis Academy, in Morgantown.
Senior Lyn Yuen Choo and freshman Giovanna Caputo are tied for the team lead with five singles wins apiece. The doubles pair of Christina Jordan and Sofía Duran pave the way for WVU with the most wins in doubles action at five.
