MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Sophomore Morgan Bullock and junior Emma Harris of the West Virginia University women's swimming and diving team have qualified for the 2018 NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships, as announced on Wednesday.
NCAA Release
Bullock earned a spot in the 200 butterfly, while Harris will compete in the 200 breaststroke. The two become the first Mountaineer women to qualify for the national meet since Rachael Burnett and Mandie Nugent in 2013.
Additionally, Bullock will compete in the 100 butterfly and 200 individual medley, and Harris will compete in the 100 breaststroke after the duo posted NCAA 'B' cut times in the events during the 2017-18 season.
The championships commence from March 14-17, at the Ohio State University's McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion in Columbus, Ohio.
"It's great to be going back to NCAAs with Morgan and Emma," WVU coach Vic Riggs said. "It's been a focus of ours for the past couple of years, and to have it become a reality feels really good. Now, we can relax, get to work and get these two Mountaineers prepared to do their best in two weeks."
Bullock earned a school-record time of 1:54.13 in the 200 butterfly at the 2018 Big 12 Championship time trials on Feb. 21. She broke Nugent's program-best time of 1:54.43, which had been held since 2012.
Later on, the Zeeland, Michigan, native finished third in the event finals, earning a bronze medal. In all, Bullock tallied a total of five silver medals and two bronzes (individual and relay) at the conference meet.
Bullock enters the NCAA Championships ranked No. 13 nationally in the 200 butterfly.
Harris also set a new WVU-best mark at the Big 12 Championship. She registered a time of 2:10.14 in the 200 breaststroke time trials on Feb. 21 before finishing with a bronze medal in the event's finals. A native of Canberra, Australia, Harris took down her previous school record of 2:12.37, which was set at last season's conference meet.
Harris sits in the No. 37 position in the event entering the NCAA Championships.
WVU set 14 school records at the Big 12 Championship, from Feb. 21-24, in Austin, Texas. Bullock was a part of five record-setting times, including two on relays, while Harris topped one record at the conference meet.
Competition at the NCAA Championships begin on March 14 at 6 p.m. ET and continues throughout the weekend. The 200 butterfly and 200 breaststroke finals are scheduled for March 17.
The qualifiers for the 2018 NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships will be revealed on March 7 at 12 p.m. ET.
