Martin Named Student-Athlete of the Week

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Following her strong performance in a win over Pitt on Dec. 8, redshirt junior guard Tynice Martin of the West Virginia University women's basketball team has been named the WVU Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by University Apartments.
Martin had 26 points in Saturday's domination of the Panthers, the most scored since her return from an injury that kept her sidelined for the 2017-18 season. The Atlanta native also had a career-best six 3-pointers, tying for the fourth-most in a single game at WVU and third-most among Mountaineer juniors. Martin's 3-point field goal percentage is second all-time and third among WVU juniors.
Additionally, the redshirt junior guard finished 9-of-14 from the field with seven rebounds and a pair of steals. She also added a pair of assists and her first block of the season. Her point total helped the Mountaineers to a 77-43 win, their largest margin of victory over Pitt in program history.
This Week in Women's Basketball: West Virginia travels to Charleston, West Virginia, to host Eastern Kentucky on Saturday … the Mountaineers and Colonels are set for a 4 p.m. tipoff inside the Charleston Coliseum & Convention Center ... WVU also is set to host Morgan State (Dec. 18), Towson (Dec. 20) and Niagara (Dec. 29) at the WVU Coliseum over the holiday break.

Last Week in Rifle: Senior Ginny Thrasher finished second at the USA Shooting Smallbore Rifle Selection Match on Dec. 5, at the United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado … Thrasher finished with a two-day match score of 2332 … she opened with a score of 1169 on day one, good for second place … she followed with a 1156 showing on day two, giving her a two-day mark of 2325 … in the final, Thrasher shot 455.3, finishing second and earning seven additional points.
Notes: Based on her finish, Thrasher has qualified for the U.S. National Team and earned the right to compete at the 2019 International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) New Delhi World Cup.
