Morgantown, W.Va. – The West Virginia University women’s tennis team fell to No. 9 Oklahoma State on Friday, as the Mountaineers dropped a 4-0 decision on the WVU Tennis Courts in Morgantown.
WVU (4-14, 0-8 Big 12) opened the match by conceding the doubles point, as Oklahoma State was able to best the Mountaineers in two of the three contests. On the third court, No. 59 Viktoriya Lushkova and Katarina Adamovic bested Kirsten White and Abigail Rosiello, 6-2, to open the match. No. 10 Vladica Babic and Carla Tur Mari would then best the tandem of Kaja Mrgole and Christina Jordan, 6-3, on court No. 1 to secure the doubles point for the Lady Raiders.
Paula Goetz and Lyn Yuen Choo were trailing No. 39 Aliona Bolsova and Sofia Blanco, 5-3, when the match was suspended due to clinch rules.
“Oklahoma State is a good team,” fourth-year coach Miha Lisac said. “They have been doing very well for a while, they obviously have a quality team. They played very tough from beginning to end.”
The Cowgirls would claim first three singles matches of the contest to secure the 4-0 victory over the Mountaineers. Katarina Stresnakova would best Rosiello in two sets, 6-0 and 6-0, to give OSU its first singles victory of the day. At the No. 6 slot, White fell in two sets to Sofia Blanco to extend the Cowgirls’ team lead to 3-0.
No. 48 Bolsova would defeat Goetz in two sets, 6-1 and 6-3, to claim the 4-0 victory for Oklahoma State.
The matches on courts one, three and four remained unfinished due to clinch rules.
