WVU to Swing Through the Sunflower State

MORGANTOWN, W.Va – The West Virginia University tennis team continues its Big 12 Conference schedule with a tour through Kansas, taking on No. 21 Kansas on Friday, March 24, and Kansas State on Sunday, March 26.
“We are looking forward to continuing our Big 12 season,” said fourth-year coach Miha Lisac. “It will be a good weekend of competition and an opportunity for us to get better as a team and to challenge two of the teams in the Big 12.”
Kansas heads into the contest with a 9-4 overall record after defeating Columbia (4-0) and North Texas (6-1) in nonconference play last weekend. The Jayhawks are 1-1 in league play. KU bested No. 27 TCU, 4-1, on March 10, before falling to No. 9 Texas Tech, 4-2, on March 12.
Sophomore Anastasia Rychagova leads the Jayhawks in singles play and is ranked No. 60 in the latest Oracle/ITA singles rankings. She has obtained a 5-1 record in dual matches this spring at the No. 1 singles slot. Senior Tess Bernard-Feigenbaum heads into the match with a 7-2 record and is currently ranked No. 122. The tandem of Bernard-Feigenbaum and Nina Khmelnitckaia pace the Jayhawks in doubles action with a 16-7 record in the spring campaign, and rank No. 55.
Friday’s match will take place at the Jayhawk Tennis Center on Friday and is slated to begin at 6 p.m. ET. Live stats will be available here. The Mountaineers and the Jayhawks have met five times, with KU winning all five matches.
Kansas State (9-8, 0-2 Big 12) enters the weekend after splitting a pair of matches at home last weekend. The Wildcats fell to SMU, 5-2, on Saturday and dropped UT Arlington, 4-3, on Sunday. K-State will take on Iowa State on Friday, before Sunday’s matchup against WVU.
Livia Cirnu leads the Wildcats with a 13-3 record in the dual season. Ana Garcia Navas and Millie Stretton lead K-State in doubles play and own a 7-7 record this spring. The pair of Ivo Bago and Ines Mesquita hold a 4-1 record.
The contest between WVU and Kansas State on Sunday will be held at the UTA Tennis Center, and first serve is at 11 a.m. ET. Live stats from Sunday’s match can be found here.
