MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University senior
Lyn Yuen Choo earned an upset victory in the main draw second round, before falling in the quarterfinal round, today, as the Mountaineers wrapped up the ITA Atlantic Regional Championships in Blacksburg, Virginia.
In her first match of the day, Choo needed just two sets to knock off No.14-seed Ines Milosevic of Penn State, 6-0 and 6-3, in the second round of the main draw. Choo then played sixth-seeded Eva Alexandrova of Maryland in the main draw quarterfinals.
Choo dropped a close first match, 7-5, before the match ended with a 6-2 second set defeat.
"I thought we had a solid tournament and competed well throughout," fifth-year coach
Miha Lisac said. "We have a lot to build upon going into our home tournament next weekend."
In other action, freshman
Giovanna Caputo earned a victory over Ruoyu Chen of China in the first round of the USTA Pro Circuit 25K in Florence, South Carolina on Sunday. She is slated to compete in the second round of the tournament on Monday.
The Mountaineers return to action on Oct. 20-22 when they play host to the Martha Thorn Pink Invitational. WVU will face James Madison, Marshall and Miami (Ohio) in the three-day tournament. Weather permitting, the Martha Thorn Invite will take place on the WVU Tennis Courts, located at the WVU Coliseum complex.
