WVU Wins Three Singles Matches to Close out Tribe

MORGANTOWN, W.Va – The West Virginia University women’s tennis recorded three wins to close out the final day of the William & Mary Tribe Invitational in Williamsburg, Virginia, on September 18.
“We saw good things from Habiba (Shaker), Lyn Yuen (Choo), and Yvon (Martinez) today during singles play,” fourth-year coach Miha Lisac said. “They handled the matches this morning very well.”
The Mountaineers took on the Liberty Flames in a singles match Sunday morning. WVU won three of the six matches against the Flames. Shaker defeated Liberty’s Evangeline Crist in two sets, 6-4 and 6-1, in the No.1 slot. At the No. 2 position, Christina Jordan fell to Anna Dollar 6-2, 6-4. Senior Kaja Mrgole was defeated by the Flames’ Emily Groeneveld, 6-1, 6-0, at the No. 3 spot. At No. 4, Carolina Lewis fell, 6-3, 6-1, to Rebekah Anderson. The Mountaineers closed out the match by winning the last two as Lyn Yuen Choo defeated Liberty’s Mariely Hassey 6-0 and 6-3. Sophomore Yvon Martinez then shut-out the Flames’ Audrey Brown 6-0, 6-0, in two sets to close out the match.
The Mountaineers head to Little Rock, Arkansas for the Little Rock Classic hosted by Arkansas from Friday, September 23 to Sunday, September 25. Recaps of all of the action from the Little Rock Classic will be available on WVUsports.com
