MORGANTOWN, W.Va - Four members of the West Virginia University women’s tennis team were named ITA Scholar-Athletes and the Mountaineers were named to the ITA All-Academic team, as announced by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).
Senior Kaja Mrgole (exercise physiology), junior Habiba Shaker (sport and exercise psychology), and sophomores Paula Goetz (industrial engineering) and Abigail Rosiello (pre-medicine) were all recognized by the ITA as Scholar-Athletes for their outstanding work in the classroom. The 2016 season marked the third consecutive year the Mountaineers earned academic team honors.
“Academics are a big part of what we do as a program” Coach Miha Lisac said of the announcement. “This award is a testament to the girl’s hard work and is well-deserved by all four girls. An award like this speaks to the team environment that we have here.”
“Jen Mandeville and the rest of our academic support staff have done a tremendous job of giving our student-athletes the support to be successful in the classroom.”
To be named a scholar-athlete by the ITA, a student-athlete must meet a set of academic and athletic standards that consist of: being named a varsity letter winner, have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year and must be enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters.
