Mountaineers Rank No. 24 Nationally

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University gymnastics team continues to reside within the national top-25 rankings, as the team checks in at No. 24 in today’s Road to Nationals Poll.
Despite back-to-back 195.0+ road scores, including a season-high road mark of 195.25 at then-No. 2 Oklahoma on Feb. 7, the Mountaineers (2-4, 0-3) are down one spot in today’s rankings by virtue of their 195.14 season average. WVU has been ranked for three straight weeks, the first such occurrence since the 2013 season.
WVU also ranks within the top 25 nationally on vault and the team checks in at No. 15 today with a 48.99 season average.
Individually, four gymnasts continue to own six national rankings. Freshman Kirah Koshinski is tops among the group, as she ranks No. 12 on vault (9.875 avg.). Sophomore Zaakira Muhammad follows Koshinski at No. 23 (9.855 avg.) and also ranks No. 15 in the all-around (39.325 avg.).
Junior Alexa Goldberg ranks No. 23 on the uneven bars (9.855 avg.) and No. 39 in the all-around (39.108 avg.), while freshman Carly Galpin sits at No. 33 on the balance beam (9.825 avg.) chart.
The Mountaineers rank No. 4 in the Southeast Region. The team checks in at No. 3 on vault, No. 4 on beam (48.6 avg.) and floor (48.865 avg.), and No. 5 on bars (48.685 avg.).
Multiple gymnasts rank No. 4 on different events. Koshinski ranks No. 4 on vault, while Galpin is No. 4 on beam and Muhammad is No. 4 in the all-around.
Four gymnasts are regionally ranked on vault and floor. Muhammad follows Koshinski on the vault chart and sits at No. 7. Senior Jaida Lawrence ranks No. 11 (9.81 avg.), and freshman Sarah Moore checks in at No. 16 (9.775 avg.).
Goldberg paces the team on floor and ranks No. 9 (9.833 avg.). Koshinski ranks No. 12 (9.805 avg.) and is followed by Muhammad at No. 15 (9.785 avg.) and senior Melissa Idell at No. 21 (9.76 avg.).
Goldberg also ranks No. 6 on bars and No. 7 in the all-around. Muhammad follows on the bars chart and ranks No. 16 (9.79 avg.), and sophomore Jordan Gillette checks in at No. 19 (9.775 avg.). Koshinski follows Galpin in the beam rankings at No. 15 (9.76 avg.), and Muhammad ranks No. 22 (9.725 avg.).
The Mountaineers continue to rank No. 3 overall in the Big 12 Conference. WVU also ranks No. 3 on each event but floor, where the team checks in at No. 4.
Koshinski ranks No. 3 on vault and No. 10 on beam. Muhammad checks in at No. 4 in the all-around, No. 6 on vault and No. 9 on bars. Goldberg ranks No. 4 on bars, No. 5 in the all-around and No. 7 on floor, while Galpin sits at No. 5 on beam.
The Mountaineers return to the road next weekend, as the team travels to Tuscaloosa, Alabama, for a meet at No. 4 Alabama on Sunday, Feb. 14. The contest is set to begin at 4 p.m. EST inside Coleman Coliseum.
