Mountaineers Wrap-Up Air Gun Championships

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Junior Elizabeth Gratz qualified for three finals at the 2016 USA Shooting Winter Air Gun Championships, held Dec. 2-4, at the U.S. Olympic Training Center, in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
A native of Sigel, Illinois, Gratz concluded the weekend shooting in the women’s 10m air rifle final and the junior women’s 10m air rifle final today. She finished fifth in the open women’s open competition, shooting 185.0. She shot 204.1 in the junior final and placed fourth. Gratz qualified for the final based on her relay score of 414.5.
Gratz finished second in the junior division on Friday with a 249.0 final score. She shot 412.8 in the open relay on day one also finished 13th in the women’s competition. Gratz finished 27th in the open relay on day two with a 411.5 mark.
Freshman Milica Babic finished ninth overall with a 417.7 mark, the second-best score of the day. A native of Belgrade, Serbia, she was not eligible to shoot in the championship finals. Babic shot 412.2 on day one and finished 16th overall. She shot 414.5 on day two.
Freshman Morgan Phillips shot 406.2 today and placed 37th in the junior division. She finished 27th in the junior division on day one with a 408.1 mark and 23rd on day two with a 410.4 total.
Senior Jean-Pierre Lucas paced the men today with a 618.9 score, good enough for a 15th-place finish in the men’s 10m air rifle competition. Lucas finished 19th overall on day two with a 616.0 mark and 23rd on day one with a 612.3 total.
Sophomore Will Anti enjoyed a strong weekend at the championships. He finished eighth in the junior division on day one with a 119.2 final score. He qualified with a 615.6 mark in the open relay, good enough for 16th place overall. He shot 611.8 on day two and finished 14th in the junior division and 26th in the open relay. Anti wrapped up his week with a 609.6 mark today, good enough for 18th in the junior competition and 32nd overall.
Freshman Jack Anderson shot 603.2 on day one and placed 24th in the open division. He followed that performance with a 609.3 total on day two, good enough for 19th in the junior competition, and placed 28th today with a 604.7 total.
Classmate Noah Barker finished 37th in the junior division today with a 600.3 total. He opened the weekend with a 595.8 mark, good enough for 41st, and he shot 599.5 yesterday and placed 37th.
Of note, Mountaineer graduate assistant Michael Bamsey also shot at the championships, earning scores of 615.6, 621.2 and 622.4.
The No. 3-ranked Mountaineers do not shoot again until hosting No. 10 Alaska-Fairbanks on Tuesday, January 10, at the WVU Rifle Range.
